Colorado River - Picacho State Park

I went to the Colorado River again last weekend. I was their with Blayne, Carrie, Corrin and her boyfriend.

Hanging out on one of the sandbars all day is so nice. We always bring a Frisbee and some footballs to toss around. It is almost always blazing hot during the day, so we spend a lot of time in the water. Cruising up or down the river with wind in our faces is a great way to keep cool, but we frequently turn off the boat engine and jump overboard for a brief swim between turns having a pull behind the boat.

The campgrounds weren't very crowded last weekend so we got one of our favorite camping spots with plenty of trees for shade cover during the day. I got a good spot for my little tent. The rangers always keep this park in good condition. It sucks that the State is cutting back on their funding here recently.

Sunset on the river is wonderful. The wind dies down and the surface of the river flows like glass which is great for waterskiing and wakeboarding. It is also a good time to catch a glimpse of a beaver or hear the slap of their tail against the water. The only downside is the mosquitoes start to come out at this time. But that brings out the bats as well as hundreds of swooping and diving birds who feed on the mosquitoes at twilight.
