28 Day Plank Challenge

I mentioned the 28 Day Plank Challenge to my wife as a joke after I saw a post about it on Facebook but she took me seriously so we decided to attempt it. Since we both practice Yoga, reaching the first minute was fairly easy, but it became much tougher for me after passing that first goal post.

On the 8th, Tori and I reached the halfway point, holding the plank position for 2 minutes. Tori was yawning while I was shaking and trembling. I had serious doubts that I would be able to reach four minutes. Here is the daily breakdown for the challenge.

Day 1 – 20 seconds
Day 2 – 20 seconds
Day 3 – 30 seconds
Day 4 – 30 seconds
Day 5 – 40 seconds
Day 6 – Rest
Day 7 – 45 seconds
Day 8 – 45 seconds
Day 9 – 60 seconds (1 minute)
Day 10 – 60 seconds
Day 11 – 60 seconds
Day 12 – 90 seconds
Day 13 – Rest
Day 14 – 90 seconds
Day 15 – 90 seconds
Day 16 – 120 seconds (2 minutes)
Day 17 – 120 seconds
Day 18 – 150 seconds
Day 19 – Rest
Day 20 – 150 seconds
Day 21 – 150 seconds
Day 22 – 180 seconds (3 minutes)
Day 23 – 180 seconds
Day 24 – 210 seconds
Day 25 – Rest
Day 26 – 210 seconds
Day 27 – 240 seconds (4 minutes)
Day 28 – Until failure

After accidentally adding an extra rest day when we came home late from a party last Sunday, we reached our final goal tonight of four minutes (240 seconds). It probably wasn't wise to wear myself out on the flying trapeze only a few hours earlier since I began aching sooner than past nights. The last 30 seconds were pure torture. Tori has a much stronger core than I do. She was planking right along side me and barely broke a sweat.

Tomorrow, we will attempt the 28th day (Until failure) with straight arms instead of down on our elbows. I promised myself that if I completed this challenge that I would go back to Pilates. I have booked a Wednesday class.
