Roller Derby - Banked Track Bout
(San Diego Sparks vs. California Rollers)

Jill invited us to watch her first bout on the banked track at the Dollhouse located downtown in the East Village. We had watched her compete with her SoCal Derby Flat Track Team before but yesterday she was with her Banked Track Team, the San Diego Sparks. The Sparks are the secondary travel team of up-and-coming skaters for the San Diego Derby Dolls.

Her bout against the California Rollers started at 5:30pm. With a lot of first timers on the Sparks, they struggled to keep up with their more experience opponents. The Rollers' blockers kept the Spark's jammers bottled up for most of the bout. While the Rollers had a comfortable lead the whole time and scored over 200 points, the Sparks still managed to crack 100 on the very last Jam of the bout.

After walking over to eat at Monkey Paw Brewing, we came back to watch the second game of the doubleheader. The bout between the Derby Doll's All-Star team, the San Diego Wildfires and the Los Angeles Tough Cookies was much faster paced bout with a lot of big hits. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jill graduate to the Wildfires in the future.
